War Hero

How many different militarly planes and flights he flew is unknown to most. In the Berlin Air Lift alone it was almost unbelievable. He was shot down in a rescue mission and fought in 3 wars, the 3rd alongside his eldest son. He is a hero of epic proportions and highly decorated, yet few knew him as such.
Those that did know him, knew him in his later years as a soft spoken farmer who smoked a personally blended cherry smelling tobacco out of a pipe that eventually killed him with emphysema. He met his wife in a coffee shop and joked that it was the most expensive cup of coffee he'd ever had. He left behind 5 broken hearted children and many devoted grandchildren.
Though it must be known, his first and greatest love was the military that had been with him from the time he was 17 and made him one of the 1st non-officer pilots of the war. He stayed true to it until he retired and long after, missing marriages, funerals and other family events to attend military ones. He was steadfast and how can you blame someone for giving back to an organization that had given so much to him all his life.
